In 1939, the Soviet Union and Germany set up understanding known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
The Germans marched into american and central Poland, whilst Soviet Union grabbed command over Belarus, Eastern Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, creating its military head office in Vilna. In Summer 1940, the Soviet Red Army marched into Lithuania and completely annexed they toward Soviet Union. In days prior to the diplomats needed to leave Vilna, the Japanese Consul Sempo Sugihara while the Dutch Consul cooperated with neighborhood Jews and released visas that let the getaway for the Mir Yeshiva rabbis and pupils to Shanghai.
Soviet communism introduced terrible adjustment for the region.
